The Upper Liesbeek River Garden (ULRG) party area is in a shady clearing next to the river. It has 3 low tables with 18 smaller stools arranged around them. To help maintain the River Garden, the Party area may be reserved for a minimum donation of R500; proof of payment will secure this reservation. Residents and benefactors who have recently donated R500 or more to the ULRG fund are not required to make an additional donation.
General rules for parties at the ULRG:
- This is a litter-free area, so please ensure that you take all left-over food and packaging home with you, to leave the area as unspoiled as you would like to find it – the bins are for dog poo only.
- When planning your party, please consider the riverside setting and the environment: balloons and party poppers are not acceptable; sweets and chips etc should preferably be in bowls so that sweet wrappers, sucker sticks and chip packets can’t blow away and find their way into the river.
- There are no toilet facilities, and no portable toilet may be brought on site, even on the roadside.
- Children need to be supervised to ensure that they stay on the paths: they must be kept out of the planted garden areas, and must not climb the river banks along Riverside Road (the side closer to the mountain) as they are unstable and dangerous.
- Fires of any kind, including the use of skottels and gas stoves, are strictly forbidden.
- Music is not allowed.
- No horses or donkeys may be brought into the ULRG.
- The number of persons attending a function must not exceed 50 persons, including small children.
- Please ask your guests to be considerate when parking in Riverside Road or Upper Noreen Avenue – especially the latter which is a cul de sac with limited parking. No parking on yellow lines or opposite residents’ driveways.
Reserving the ULRG Party area:
Use the online booking form to choose either a morning (09:00-12:00), afternoon (14:00-17:00) or evening (18:00 onwards) party booking, taking into account the amount of time (30 minutes or so) that you will need for cleaning up after your party. Note that it is not always possible to accommodate requests for parties outside of these time periods on weekends and public holidays.
